Dick Hakes
Bill’s studio and equipment are first rate and he knows what he is doing, plushis laid-back, calming attitude helps put a lid on the recording-room jitters whenyou are an amateur like me. I enjoyed the experience and the results exceededmy expectations. Thanks Bill!
Dick Hakes is a singer-songwriter, a popular columnist for the Iowa City Press-Citizen, and businessman who has made a special project out of writing songs for his family. Each of his grandchildren have gotten a song written and recorded for them and he has done some tunes for other family members as well. His introductory email to me included a song about his wife’s mother that is beautifully written and somebody should record it. I’m still working on that.
On Friday 13, 2012 Dick stopped by and recorded this one for his newest grandbaby, and it was a very compact, efficient session. He came prepared to record and and got it done in very quickly. So we had a bit of time to chat, but mostly we got down to business and here’s the result, which Dick is kind enough to share with everyone.
Enjoy!
Jimmy Legs Blues
Hi, Dick. Sorry, I am not writing to comment on your song, although I listened to it. I wanted to comment on your article in the Register today. This is the only way I could find to communicate with you. You said dance cards were falling out of favor in the 1950s. We had them at my Senior Prom in 1971 in Jamestown ND, though none of us knew what they were for. Just an update!
